The Working Mind
We are excited to introduce The Working Mind, a one-day evidence-based workplace mental health program from Mental Health First Aid International
Upcoming Course: The Working Mind for Managers - Thursday 12th November, in person, Melbourne CBD.
Skilled leaders. Stronger teams. Supportive cultures.
Shape a mentally healthy workplace.
About the course
The Working Mind is an evidence-based program proven to shift workplace culture and strengthen mental wellbeing.
The program equips workplaces with practical tools to embed mental health dialogue into everyday operations, break down stigma, foster psychologically safe environments, and help employees use the Mental Health Continuum Tool to recognise changes in themselves and their colleagues.
It reduces stigma, improves communication, and creates a shared, respectful language around mental health, helping teams support one another earlier and more confidently.
Bringing The Working Mind to your workplace is a commitment to prioritising mental health, rather than just managing it.
The Working Mind was developed by Opening Minds and has been successfully implemented in Canada with support from the Mental Health Commission of Canada.
How the course is run
The Working Mind helps employees and managers:
Understand mental health: Recognise signs of good, declining, and poor mental health in themselves and others.
Foster psychologically safe environments: Cultivate a safe, supportive environment where mental health can be discussed openly and without judgement, using nonstigmatising language.
Address stigma at every level: Promote respectful, informed approaches to mental health across teams and leadership.
Build resilience: Improve resilience through learning and practising coping strategies in times of stress.
The Working Mind is delivered face-to-face and online, and includes carefully designed modules:
Mental health stigma: Examine concepts of mental health and discuss the impacts of stigma on individuals living with mental health or substance use problems.
Mental Health Continuum Tool: Use the Mental Health Continuum Tool to notice changes in yourself and your colleagues.
Stress and resilience: Explore the impacts of stress on mental health, and practise applying the Big 4 Coping Strategies – simple but proven tools to deal with stress effectively and remain resilient.
Supporting your team (Managers only): Practise skills to support your team’s mental health and wellbeing. Review appropriate actions to take to support employees.
Mental Health First Aid and The Working Mind - two complementary courses
Mental Health First Aid and The Working Mind courses complement one another by building culture and capacity, and are often delivered together in workplaces.
Culture: The Working Mind builds a mentally healthy workplace culture by normalising conversations, reducing stigma, and strengthening resilience.
Capacity: Mental Health First Aid equips individuals with practical skills to respond when a colleague is in distress or crisis.
Having both programs ensures your workplace has a supportive and non-judgemental culture around mental health (TWM) and employees are equipped to recognise and respond to colleagues experiencing mental health problems or crises (MHFA).
Butterfly Effect Psychology are excited to have been part of the first wave of MHFA Instructors trained in January 2026 to deliver The Working Mind in workplaces across Australia.
The Working Mind has two streams:
Employees: 5-hours (Modules 1-3)
Managers: 8-hours (Modules 1-4)
Online or in person delivery available.
